After the Preludes 12 update, there’s finally a way to fast travel in Soulframe. Even in its pre-alpha state, the map of Midrath (the game’s main overworld) is huge, and it takes over ten minutes to run across it on a straight line. Even if you’re not running faction tales in specifically high-level regions to get more XP, just farming various sub-bosses in Soulframe will take you across central Midrath, and the journey can be feel somewhat tedious if you do it everyday.

However, if you think you can skip the grind and zip-zap around with Soulframe’s new fast-travel system, think again. There’s a fast-travel token in the process that greatly limits how frequently you can do this.

How does fast travel work in Soulframe?

It stands to sense that you’d have already unlocked a lot of the map to want to fast travel in the first place. The fast-travel points are the World Trees, which are also the points of interest that lets you reveal the map of Soulframe bit by bit.

After you’ve unlocked at least one World Tree, you can fast-travel to it from any place. However, this requires one consumable item called the Wevetseed. As you fast-travel, one Wevetseed is automatically deducted from your inventory.

So, how do you get Wevetseeds in Soulframe?

As of Prelude 12, the only way to get a Wevetseed in Soulframe is to pick it up from a potted tree growing next to Vaermina in your Nightfold. This is the green sapling that you obtain after beating The Waste Bear fable (which also requires completing Brewer of Hues to unlock Vaermina).

Walk up to Vaermina’s workstation and turn towrds the sapling to pluck the Wevetseed from it. One Wevetseed automatically grows here once everyday (during daily reset).

This would mean you can only fast travel once everyday in Soulframe, except you can indeed hoard multiple Wevetseeds at the same time. In other words, you can indeed fast travel many times in a row, but you’re limited by your supply of Wevetseeds.

Why is fast-travel so costly in Soulframe?

Ultimately, no farming spot for Wevetseeds means you’re forced to use fast travel very sparingly in Soulframe. This is an intended design choice from Digtial Extremes, who are reluctant to build the gameplay loop around menu-clicks to skip exploration.

For now, those who run cross-country faction Tales or do boss runs are forced to hike on foot, or for the lack of actual mounts, use the Orengall Pact to run slightly faster on all fours.
