Brian Bosworth has a wishlist for what he wants to see from the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday.
The Sooners open the 2025 season against FCS Illinois State in Week 1 in what is sure to be an easy game. But the former Sooners linebacker doesn’t want OU to treat it that way. They have a much bigger fish in Week 2 when Michigan visits Norman, and if Oklahoma lollygags too much in Week 1, they won’t be ready for the Wolverines.
“Just because of our Week 2 opponent, you’ve got to go into this game with zero patience,” Bosworth told KREF in Norman. “The most important thing that, really all phases, but mostly important for offense and defense, is to be at top speed.”
Considering the expected point differential between Oklahoma and Illinois State is 35 points or greater, the Sooners likely won’t have their starters in the game for all 60 minutes. Injury risk is too high to allow quarterback John Mateer or defensive end R Mason Thomas to play much into the fourth quarter. Perhaps even the third.
As such, Bosworth wants maximum effort in the time the starters do have on the field against the Cardinals.
“I need to see acceleration where smoke comes out of their cleats,” Bosworth said.
All three SoonersWire staffers predicted Oklahoma by at least 42 points over Illinois State. Michigan opens its 2025 season Saturday in Ann Arbor against New Mexico from the Mountain West.
