The Oklahoma Sooners are days away from kicking off their 2025 season, as OU looks forward to getting the bad taste of a failed 2024 season out of its mouth.
One voice in the college football space that has been high on the Sooners this offseason has been Josh Pate. The host of “Josh Pate’s College Football Show” has Oklahoma in the top ten of his preseason “JP Poll” and has raved about the moves that OU has made to improve this offseason.
On Sunday, Pate released his record predictions for each team in the SEC. The analyst believes that Oklahoma will go 8-4 this season, despite having the Sooners 10th in the country in the preseason.
Likely due to a daunting schedule in 2025, Pate believes that the number of high-level opponents the Sooners will have to face this year will keep them from nine or ten wins in head coach Brent Venables’ fourth season.
Pate has a wide range of teams joining the Sooners at 8-4, including LSU, South Carolina, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Missouri. Oklahoma will have to play eight of the conference’s top 12 teams this year in Pate’s predictions. Meanwhile, Texas will play just four of the top 12 teams, and all four of the worst teams in the projection.
As for the SEC Championship Game, Pate has Alabama and Texas facing off in Atlanta for one of the four byes in the College Football Playoff and a trip to the Sugar Bowl CFP quarterfinal game.
Oklahoma expects to make a big jump this year, and Pate agrees that they have the pieces to improve in 2025. However, navigating the nation’s hardest schedule won’t be easy for Venables and Co. The Sooners are aware of the task ahead of them, and they haven’t backed down from the brutal slate this offseason. With fall right around the corner, Oklahoma is about to find out what they’re made of in college football’s premier conference.
